The Oil On Water Chaise

Many workers in the service of the family would often tell of their happiness at PoppyCock Manor and how lovely the staff were treated. Lord Kerfuffle and Lady Swish would frequently gather them altogether for a Sunday roast and the family would sit and chat with them, taking an interest in their lives outside of their work. Maud, Razzmatazz and Malarkey would play with the worker’s children; they were always encouraged to share their toys with those less fortunate and this led to a wonderful, open, friendly atmosphere in the village at Upper Honkham.

One day a chaise longue was brought into the house, gifted by an elderly aunt. Although it was dirty and more than a little pungent, the shape of it was divine and Lady Swish set about making it lovely again. She truly excelled herself with this chaise and it was the most beautiful piece of furniture that was widely praised and admired around the county.

They decided to set up a benevolent fund for the workers families when costs were extra high and times were hard. Every year at the village fete, the chaise would be wheeled out for show. They had an artist on hand who would draw sketches and portraits of people on the chaise and the money for this would go into the fund. The local artists frequently gave their services for free to compete with their peers on who could capture the velvet the best. The artists were glad to give their art for a charitable cause and the workers were safe and settled in their jobs and trusted the family they happily worked hard for.

Specifications

This Victorian chaise longue has been re-upholstered in an amazing velvet that reminds us of seeing oil in a puddle. It is absolutely stunning, the colours are so vivid and it has a gold shimmer to it. I could never describe this enough to actually do it justice. It is beyond special.

For humans, scars show a life lived, wisdom, a wealth of experiences and an unwavering will to survive and overcome. For us this is our furniture too. It's not perfect there's no doubt about that. But it's bold, it's strong and it's here.

We have taken beautiful colours, fabrics and woods and combined them to create a limited range of high end, slightly bonkers interior furnishings.
